Endhiran was released in July 2010 and based on the novel with the same name written by Madhusree Mukherjee. The film, directed by M. S. The screenplay for Endhiran is penned by C. V. Kumar. The film's music is composed by A. R. Rahman while the background score was created by A. Sreekar Prasad. Produced by Rajinikanth's then-wife Latha Rajinikanth, under the banner of Wunderbar Films, it is being made simultaneously in Tamil and Hindi versions, with the latter titled Enthiran (Robot) and to be shot in three languages with a huge budget of more than ₹1 billion for both versions making it the most expensive Indian film ever made. On 18 March 2013, reports surfaced in newsprint that the film, scheduled to begin shooting in early April, would be delayed for six months due to the actor's prolonged illness. This delay would push back the release date of the film. Rajinikanth had undergone heart surgery in mid-February when he was admitted with what was described as fever and chest congestion. Reportedly, by mid-May, Rajinikanth's health had stabilised but he still intended to resume shooting by early June. Filming resumed at Thalapakkam with principal photography on 22 June 2013 (reportedly). The film was released on 6 October 2013 in Tamil Nadu and 15 October 2013 worldwide. The plot of the film revolves around the scientist Vaseegaran (Rajinikanth) and his android robot Chitti (also Rajinikanth). He develops a hatred towards robots due to a childhood accident when he was disfigured. Chitti falls in love with a human, Nandini(Aishwarya Rai), just to find out that she has been involved in a plot to kill Vaseegaran.
